| Working towards individual goals, we enable children to begin to take control of their own lives and begin to look towards the future. |
Arnfield Independent School is registered with the Department for Education and Skills (our DfES Registration No. is 830/6034) as an independent school with special educational provision. Education takes place both at Arnfield Tower Activity Centre and Greenfield House. At Arnfield Independent School we offer a broad and balanced curriculum with the emphasis on treating each student as in individual.
Every young person has the right to be given the opportunity to develop to their own maximum potential in order that they may get the most out of life.
Every student will be assessed on admission using the Basic and Key Skill Builder assessment and diagnostic package, as part of his/her induction. An individual programme of study will be produced based on these assessment outcomes, the Personal Education Plan and the expressed wishes of the individual young person.
Students will be able to achieve recognition of their work through the AQA unit award scheme, ASDAN awards and by gaining GCSE awards. Where possible, older students are encouraged to take part in work placements within the local community and may gain NVQ qualifications; others may opt to continue their education at a local college of further education.
Education is provided by qualified teachers and support workers in a dedicated education area. The ratio of staff to young people will range between 1:4 and 2:1 as appropriate. At Arnfield Independent School, education is seen as a 24 hour process, continuing beyond the confines of the education area. A rich and diverse programme of outdoor education activities complement the more traditional areas of education. Progress in this area is recognised by the ASDAN awards scheme and the AQA unit award scheme. A highly skilled and qualified team of outdoor education instructors deliver this programme.
The ultimate aim at Arnfield Independent School is to facilitate young people to return to full-time education in either a maintained school or college education. We have built excellent relationships with many of the local schools and colleges of further education, assisting us in achieving this goal. |
